Pattern or kit?
Buy the pattern if you already have yarn in mind, love choosing your own colors, or want to use up stash. Buy the kit if you want everything matched for you, which is especially helpful for colorwork, gradients, and shawls with several shades. Many designs, like the Crosshatch Cardigan, Baklava Cowl, and Baba Noel Holiday Stocking, come both ways. Either way, check the skill level, finished size, yarn weight, and needle or hook size before you start.
