Self-striping yarn

Self-striping yarn is dyed in long sections of color, so stripes appear on their own as you knit or crochet. We carry Urth Yarns Uneek in extra-fine merino in fingering, DK, and worsted weights.

How to control your stripes

Stripe width depends on how many stitches are in each row or round. Socks and hats worked in the round with a small number of stitches get narrow, even stripes. Wider pieces like sweaters and blankets get thinner stripes, since each color is spread across more stitches. To make matching socks, start both at the same point in the color sequence. Fingering weight is perfect for socks and shawls, and DK and worsted work up faster for hats, cowls, and scarves.
