The story of Revolution Fibers' Zephira
A new wool-silk yarn with a familiar purpose.
For years, Jagger Spun Zephyr was a trusted choice for fine weaving, lace, and lightweight cloth. When production ended, makers still had projects, patterns, and experience built around the yarn.
Revolution Fibers developed Zephira in response. It shares the fine 18/2 count and broad wool-silk balance makers valued, while remaining a new yarn with its own hand and finishing character.

The Jagger Spun legacy
A Maine spinning history that earned makers’ trust.
The Jagger family’s worsted-spinning history in Maine reaches back to the late nineteenth century. Jagger Spun later became a familiar source for handweaving yarns across North America.
Makers returned to those yarns because they were dependable. Familiar counts made it easier to plan a warp, repeat a successful cloth, and understand what would happen after wet finishing.

The yarn behind years of projects
Zephyr became a yarn makers knew by feel.
Its wool-silk blend offered useful elasticity, a soft hand, and a low sheen. After enough projects, makers knew how it behaved from the warping board to the wash.
On the loom
The smooth surface supported clear pattern, even tension, and fine cloth.
After wet finishing
The fabric softened, opened, and kept the quiet silk glow makers expected.
When production ended
Makers still had patterns, samples, and plans built around Zephyr.
The remaining yarn became harder to find, but the project knowledge did not disappear. Matching the count alone could not replace years of experience with the yarn.
Revolution Fibers’ response
We began working on a yarn that could serve those projects again.
Weavers kept asking for a smooth 18/2 wool-silk yarn with useful elasticity, next-to-skin softness, clear structure, and a subtle sheen.
Development took time. Zephira 2/18 launched in late 2025 as a new Revolution Fibers yarn for many of the weaving, knitting, and crochet projects makers still wanted to make.
Zephira was developed independently of the former Jagger Spun operation. It shares the 18/2 count and broad 50/50 wool-silk balance with Zephyr. The yarns are not identical, so sampling remains the best way to learn Zephira.

A smooth 18/2 wool-silk yarn with project-scale yardage.
Each one-pound cone holds 5,040 yards. The worsted-spun construction keeps the yarn smooth and clear through heddles, reed, needles, and hooks.
50% superfine Merino

The first real test was the loom.
Longtime Zephyr users, new Zephira customers, and editors at Handwoven and Little Looms began working with the yarn soon after launch.

Independent loom test
Handwoven followed Zephira from warp to finished cloth.
Weaver Denise Bolger Kovnat compared original Zephyr with Zephira in nine deflected-doubleweave samples.
The finished samples showed lightness, flexibility, softness, and silk luster. The article also noted small differences between the yarns, which is why a sample matters.

Yarn specifications
Zephira 2/18 is a two-ply, worsted-spun yarn made with 50% superfine Merino wool and 50% Tussah silk. Each one-pound cone contains 5,040 yards. The line includes 27 colors.
Starting setts for weaving
Begin around 18 to 20 epi for plain weave and 22 to 28 epi for twill. Structure, tension, beat, and finishing can change the right sett, so wet-finish a sample before winding a large warp.
Knitting and crochet starting points
For knitting, begin around 24 to 32 stitches per 4 inches on US 1 to 4 needles. For firm crochet, begin around 28 to 34 single crochet stitches per 4 inches on US B-1 to C-2. For drapier lace, begin around 20 to 24 double crochet stitches per 4 inches on US D-3 to E-4.
Care and wet finishing
Hand wash in cool water with wool wash. Press gently in a towel without twisting, reshape, and dry flat. Test strongly contrasting colors together before using them in the same project. Protect finished pieces from prolonged direct sunlight.
Zephira and Zephyr
Zephira is a new Revolution Fibers yarn developed independently of the former Jagger Spun operation. It shares the 18/2 worsted count and a broad 50% wool and 50% silk balance with Zephyr. The yarns have their own hand and finishing character, so sample Zephira in your chosen structure.
Why the product name says 2/18
Many weaving references write the count as 18/2. Some wool-yarn traditions reverse the order and write 2/18. Both describe a two-ply yarn made from 18-count worsted-spun singles. Revolution Fibers uses Zephira 2/18 as the product name and 18/2 worsted count in technical explanations.
