Soft. Springy. Strong. Wool that works without fuss.

Rambouillet wool is a favorite among spinners—and often preferred over Merino for its bounce, structure, and control. It’s soft enough for next-to-skin wear, easy to draft, and strong enough to hold up through years of use.

Sourced and processed in the Western U.S., our Rambouillet Combed Top is clean, consistent, and ready to spin right out of the bag—no pre-drafting, no frustration. Just smooth, reliable wool that helps your hands do their best work.

Made for Spinners Who Want Control

  • Next-to-skin soft: Fine micron count (~20 avg., range 18.5–24.5) gives it a soft, smooth hand—many say it feels "cottony" and prefer it over Merino.
  • Drafts effortlessly—no prep needed: Combed top prep removes short fibers and aligns everything for a smooth, consistent draft—even for beginners.
  • Structured to spin well: Square, matte fibers with a defined crimp make this wool naturally cohesive and predictable to work with.
  • Springy and elastic: The crimp gives great memory and bounce. Your yarn blooms after washing and keeps its shape beautifully.
  • Strong and durable: Staple length of 2.5–4 inches (50–100 mm) means fewer breaks and longer-lasting yarns—ideal for socks, outerwear, and everyday knits.
  • Takes dye evenly: Rambouillet absorbs both acid and natural dyes beautifully, producing clear, vibrant, and consistent color.
  • Felts with control: Fine enough for smooth felting and dense enough to hold structure in both wet and needle felting.

What Makes Combed Top Different?

This isn’t roving or batts. Our combed top is:

  • Free of short fibers and debris
  • Aligned for smooth spinning
  • Ready to use—no pre-drafting required

The result? Cleaner yarn, better drape, and less pilling.
