Wool warp and cotton warp yarn
Warp yarn is held under tension on the loom for the whole project, so it needs to be strong, smooth, and able to take some rubbing from the heddles and reed. This collection includes Brown Sheep Wool Warp on a 2 lb cone and Bockens cotton warp seine twine, along with other wool rug warp cones.
How to choose a warp yarn
Choose by project. Wool warp suits rugs, tapestry, and blankets, where you want a warp with a little give and a fabric that fulls nicely when washed. Cotton seine twine is firm and has almost no stretch, which makes it a favorite for tapestry, rag rugs, and wall hangings. A quick test for any yarn: tug a length firmly between your hands. If it snaps or pulls apart, save it for weft. Then check the yards per pound to plan your sett and how much you'll need.
