Versatile and Robust
Capable of winding large center-pull cakes (up to 17 oz / 1.1 lb max cake size), this winder handles everything from fine lace to bulky yarns. Keep in mind: “17 oz” is a maximum cake-size rating. Finer yarns pack more weight into the same cake, while thicker yarns reach max size sooner.
Capacity Guide (Real-World Examples)
- Fingering / Sock: about 16–17 oz (just over 1 lb) per cake
- Worsted: about 10 oz per cake
- Bulky: you can wind it, but you’ll usually get less than worsted per cake (for large skeins, you may want to split into two cakes)
Tip: For best results, stop winding once the cake reaches the top of the cone and/or the yarn guide arm rather than forcing a larger cake.

Typical Lifespan
It’s built for long-term use (hardwood body + sealed bearings). The belt is the main wear item—with normal use and reasonable tension, most customers get many years out of it, and it’s replaceable if it ever stretches or slips.
