Soft yarn and fiber for next-to-skin projects
When softness matters most, start here. This collection gathers our softest yarn and fiber: merino yarn from Baah and Malabrigo, Exotica merino with mulberry silk and cashmere, Lanalpaca alpaca and merino, Bonmoher mohair and silk, Lofty cotton bouclé, and spinning fibers like merino and bamboo top, merino and Tussah silk, mulberry silk, and faux cashmere.
What makes yarn and fiber feel soft?
Fiber diameter is a big part of it. Wool is measured in microns, and the lower the number, the finer and softer it feels. Fine merino, alpaca, silk, and cashmere all feel gentle against skin, which makes them ideal for baby items, cowls, hats, and sweaters. Softness can come with trade-offs, though. Very fine fibers can pill more with wear, and silk has less bounce than wool. Check the fiber content and care on each listing so your project stays soft for years.
