Why spin Shetland?

Shetland wool comes from a hardy breed from the Shetland Islands of Scotland. It's light, warm, and a little crisp, with enough grip to make it easy to draft. It's the classic wool for Fair Isle knitting because the fibers hold stitches in place and bloom beautifully after washing. Spin each color on its own for stranded colorwork, or blend the shades for a rich heathered yarn. For felting, Shetland holds its shape well and gives a slightly rustic texture.
