Blending boards for fiber

A blending board is a flat board covered in carding cloth that lets you layer and mix fibers by hand, then roll them off into rolags ready to spin. We carry the Louet Blending Board and the Majacraft Blending Board, both with 72 TPI carding cloth.

How a blending board works

Lay fiber onto the board in rows, pressing it into the teeth with a brush. Stack colors, add a bit of silk or sparkle, then roll the fiber off the board with a pair of dowels to make long, airy rolags. It's one of the easiest ways to plan color, since you can see exactly where each shade will land before you spin. A 72 TPI cloth works well with most wools and blends. Compared to a drum carder, a board makes smaller batches with more control over every layer.

Need to prep larger batches? See drum carders. Working with tiny amounts? Try hand carders.
