Kromski Poly Drive Bands (Choose Your Wheel)
If your wheel is slipping at faster ratios, take-up feels inconsistent, or your current drive band is worn out or broken, replacing the drive band is one of the simplest ways to get your Kromski spinning smoothly again. This listing lets you choose your exact wheel model so we can send the correct size poly drive band for your setup.
What This Drive Band Helps With
- Slipping on the whorl (especially when you move to faster ratios)
- Inconsistent pull-in/take-up caused by a stretched, glazed, or worn band
- Drive bands that fray, break, or won’t hold a usable tension
- Replacing an older band with a clear, stretchy poly band sized for your Kromski wheel
How to Choose the Right Option
Select your wheel model: Fantasia, Sonata, Prelude, Interlude, Minstrel, Symphony, or Polonaise. Each option is a different length—choosing the correct wheel is what ensures the right fit.

Single Drive and Double Drive Notes
On double drive wheels, the drive band does two jobs: it turns the flyer and it must also slip correctly on the bobbin pulley so yarn can wind onto the bobbin. The stretch poly band material offered here is selected to support those two functions. This band can also be used as a single loop when spinning in Scotch tension mode.
FAQs
Which wheel models does this fit?
This listing is for Kromski poly drive bands sized for: Fantasia, Sonata, Prelude, Interlude, Minstrel, Symphony, and Polonaise. If your wheel is not listed, contact us and we’ll help you find the correct part.
How do I choose the right one?
Select the wheel you own from the dropdown. Each wheel uses a different length, so the wheel name is the most reliable way to pick.
How do I install a poly drive band if it is already joined?
Installation varies by wheel: Sonata and Fantasia typically require removing the footmen from the crank to place the band. Prelude/Interlude (single drive), Symphony, and Polonaise generally require lifting the drive wheel from the wheel posts to drop the band in place. Minstrel installations may involve placing the band by loosening hardware or joining the band in position.
Can I cut and re-join a poly drive band?
Some spinners do, especially for wheels where placing a joined loop is less convenient. If you choose to do this, follow the wheel maker’s instructions and use care when working with heat. If you’d rather avoid that route, contact us and we can help with the simplest install approach for your wheel.
Will this work on a double drive wheel?
Yes. On double drive wheels, correct function depends on both drive and controlled slip at the bobbin pulley for take-up. This stretch poly band material is selected to support those requirements. As always, use only as much tension as needed for normal operation.
My wheel is harder to treadle after replacing the band—what should I do?
The most common cause is too much tension. Reduce tension and re-check that the band is tracking cleanly on the drive wheel and whorl. If the band won’t track well, confirm the wheel is aligned and all hardware is secure.
My band is slipping—does that mean it’s the wrong size?
Not always. A slipping band can be caused by residue (oil, dust, wax) or by a tension setting that’s too loose. Wipe the band with a clean cloth and re-adjust tension gradually. If slipping continues, reach out and we’ll troubleshoot with you.
How should I store my wheel with a poly drive band?
Many spinners relieve tension when the wheel is not in use by slipping the band off the whorl, then placing it back when spinning. Keeping constant tension for long periods can reduce elasticity over time.
